“Onno & Ontje” is a heartwarming preschool film about friendship, sharing, and the true spirit of Christmas. On a quiet island in the Wadden Sea, the solitary ex-fisherman Onno meets cheerful little otter Ontje, who suddenly washes ashore. As a snowstorm approaches, Onno must open his heart – to save the holidays for his new best friend, and for himself.
On a tiny island in the middle of the Wadden Sea, ex-fisherman Onno lives a quiet, solitary life. After developing severe seasickness, he gave up the sea, leaving his adventurous wife Olga to sail the world and earn their living. Onno, content in his isolation, spends his days alone—until one stormy morning when a cheeky little otter named Ontje is washed ashore. Ontje is curious, enthusiastic, and full of life. Despite Onno’s gruff resistance, the otter’s charm slowly chips away at the old man’s walls, and a warm, unexpected friendship begins to bloom. But as Christmas approaches, Ontje’s boundless excitement and desire to celebrate—with every seagull, seal, and creature nearby—clashes with Onno’s longing for peace and quiet. To make matters worse, Olga is stranded at sea in a snowstorm. Ontje’s first Christmas hangs in the balance. Will Onno be able to save the holiday for his newfound friend? If he opens his heart, he can discover the true meaning of connection and celebration.
